The Athletic Association has been in continuous existence since its establishment in 1923, and has the responsibility of promoting the physical well being of students by providing facilities for games and sports and organising competitions and tournaments in different sports and games. The office-bearers of the Athletic Association (including the Honorary President and the Honorary Secretary) are appointed by the Vice-Chancellor. The Athletic Association recognises, from time to time, various sports/games for inclusion in the sphere of its activities, and the President, Athletic Association recommends the names of teachers for appointment by the Vice-Chancellor as Presidents of the recognised indoor and outdoor sports and games. The Athletic Association functions under the general aegis of the All-India University Sports Board of the Association of Indian Universities.
Sports and Games Facilities
The Athletic Association maintains the University (outdoor) Stadium, playing fields and courts for various games (Hockey, Cricket, Football, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Squash, Badminton, etc) and a Swimming Pool. It also has a Gymnasium, with indoor facilities for floor and bar exercises, Badminton and Table Tennis. The Association provides coaching and training facilities to students in several of the recognised sports and games. Almost all the University Hostels and some of the recognised Hostels/Halls have their own indoor games facilities and playing fields and courts for outdoor games. The Association provides Kit Allowance to members of University Teams, and TA/DA to teams and individual players participating in out-station Competitions, Tournaments and Athletic Meets.
A special admission quota (the Sports Quota) is provided for students proficient in sports and games in almost all the courses for which the entire admission process is in the control of the University itself. Students with outstanding achievements in Team sports/games and individual competitions are awarded University Colours. Team members and individual outstanding sportspersons in recognised sports and games are entitled to a Kit Allowance as well as TA/DA for participating in State/National and other recognised out-station Competitions and Tournaments. The achievements of students in sports and games are recognised from time to time by holding special functions for honouring them.

* RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF SPORTS, GAMES AND PHYSICAL CULTURE (LAST FIVE YEARS)
(a) University students have won 19 Gold Medals, 6 Silver Medals and 10 Bronze Medals in various Inter-University Tournaments.
(b) The recent outstanding achievements of sportspersons of the University in various National and International events are as follows:
1997-1998: Mr Abhinn Shyam Gupta represented India as a member of the National Badminton Team in various International Tournaments including the Commonwealth Games.
Mr Pramod Kumar Tiwari created new National Games Record in Hammer Throw event.
Ms Shastri Devi won Medal in All-India Indira Gandhi Marathon.
1998-1999: Mr Abhinn Shyam Gupta represented India in the World Badminton Tournament.
1999-2000: Ms Shastri Devi won Gold Medal in All- India Indira Gandhi Marathon.
