An arabasque of programmes was organized at Nirala Sabhagar by the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Differently Abled Students (JNCDAS) of Allahabad University (AU) to celebrate the International Day for the persons with Disability (IDPD). A General Knowledge contest and a debate competition for the differently-abled students was organized on 28 November and 2 December, respecyively, in the run-up to IDPD. The theme of this years IDPD, taking a cue from UN, was "Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology". Prof. Sidhnath, Dr. Rajesh Chandra, and Dr. Ashish Saxena judged the candidates in the debate competition the topic "The Indian Society is Sensitive to the Needs of Differently-Abled". Shri Arvind Kumar Pandey (Superintendent, U.P. State Government Hostel for Differently-Abled Students, Allahabd) was felicitated on the occasion for his disguised contribution for Differently-abled Students enrolled in higher educational institutions.
Prof. R. K. Singh (Professor-in-charge, Academic Programmes) was the Chief Guest of the function while Bhupendra Yadav (President, AUSU) and Prof. Siddhnath were guests of honour. The function was conducted by Dr. Alok Prasad (Coordinator-JNCDAS).
Prof. R. K. Singh, who is also the chairman of ICT cell of the University, said the as ICT is critical for inclusion of students in higher education there is a plan to upgrade the facilities of JNCDAS by providing it with new software and hardware's. Dr. Alok Prasad said that the JNCDAS will soon have an employment counselor exclusively for differently ables students and the process to acquire screen reading software in Hindi language for visually challenged students is in the pipelines. However, he lamented the fact that the university's engineering department has not build ramps and railings in University buildings in spite of respect reminders. Prof. Sidhnath mentioned that the while the differently-abled students should strive of excellence, their efforts will not pay without the support from the society.
In the G.K. Test the winners in Post-Graduate and Researcher category were Tanmaya Malviya, Anurag Tripathi, Dhananjay Yadav and Ajay Kumar Mishra, while in U.G. Category the winners were Devendra Rajput, Anjul and Krishna Kumar. In the Debate competition the overall winners were Anurag Singh, UmeshKumar and Ajay Mishra, Devendra Kumar Gupta differently abled students of Allahabad University and his musical band entralled the audience with songs composed by them.
