Department of Home Science

The Department of Home Science was established in this university in 1945 in pre-independent India to educate Indian women. In 1969 Biochemistry Department was opened in the same building of Home-Science. Gradually it became the Department of Biochemistry and Home-Science. Later on only in the year 2000, the department was again made independent department by the orders of the then Chancellor and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. At that time the department was only running 3 years B. Sc. Home-Science course. The course was strengthened and it had only one permanent faculty. Dr. S. Srivastava took charge as Head in 2002. With great effort a new wing of Home-Science was built in 2007. One library, 4 new laboratories of Food & Nutrition, Textile, Microbiology and Chemistry were set up along with 4 new classrooms and library. Post graduate programme in Textile and Apparel Designing was approved by the academic bodies of the University in 2008. The programme was launched in 2009. The P.G. program aims at producing human resource for the readymade apparel Industry and the Textile Industry. This programme has 15 seats, for women candidates only.

Fashion  Design CAD Lab

Research program commenced in the department in 2012. The department endeavors to grow rapidly with increase in faculty positions, which is likely to take place shortly.

Home Science Department offers specialization in Textile and Apparel Designing.

Department have well established laboratories for Textile Testing, Apparel Designing & Resource Management and Microbiology.

  • Invited lectures by the eminent people are regularly taking place.
  • A summer workshop on antioxidant activity in food was held on 13th July 2010.
  • P.G. Students get exposure of industries by summer training.
  • Project at U.G and P.G. level gives students research experience.
