“Regional Imagination in Social Science Discourse in India at the seminar hall of Department of Education, University of Allahabad. The workshop began with a formal welcome address by Prof. Ashish Saxena, Head, Department of Sociology, followed by a presentation of brief profile of Prof. Anant Kumar Giri by Dr. Muneer Illath, faculty member, Department of Sociology. Prof. Giri spoke at length on “Beyond Eurocentrism and Ethnocentrism and the Challenges of Cultivation Global Social Thought and Planetary Conversations”. Prof. Giri emphasized on the need for collaborative imagination while creating knowledge both at the regional and global level. For him, geography cannot be remained isolated while creating knowledge that was denoted as ‘Idea of Foot Work’ by him, which encapsulated the notion of area study into planetary conversation. Prof. A.R.N Srivastava, retired Professor of Anthropology, highlighted challenges of availability and accessibility of translated literature in Hindi and other regional languages. Prof. Anuradha Sharma, Head, Department of Political Science, UoA, focused on Classical Indian political thought  like that of Kautilya and Manu which had already mentioned about the concepts like ‘Good Governance’ but the concept got authenticated and patronized by western political discourse and institutions. Prof. B. K. Singh, the Librarian of UoA, delivered a thought-provoking deliberation on contemporary social science literature. For him, we think in our language but express in other language often with the purpose of commercialization. Prof. Rishikant Pandey, Professor of Philosophy, UoA, talked on conversion of knowledge from one language to other taking into account the limitation of conversion of knowledge given by W.O Cohn. For him, knowledge is linguistic behavior and an expression of information. Prof. Anupam Pandey, Professor of Geography, also highlighted that knowledge is expression of mind and language is its means which can be geographically distinct. Dr. Vijaylakshmi Saxena, Dr. Sanjay Dwivedi, Dr. Sandhya Pandey, Dr. Saroj Yadav, Ms. Husna Bano, Mr. Sunil Kumar Yadav, Dr. Vandana Tripathi also expressed their views on the topic. The workshop was also attended by students and research scholars of Department of Sociology and Education.
